Applied for Nearly 2000 "Nezha" Trademark in One Month

As of September 2, the box office of "The Devil Child of Nazha" (hereinafter referred to as "Nazha") has surpassed 4.7 billion, surpassing the 4.6 billion of "Wandering Earth" to become the second highest in box office film in China. Behind this, its producer Enlight Media (300251. SZ) has applied for nearly 2,000 trademark registration in less than a month. The content of the trademark is basically related to the film "Ne Zha".

The insiders from the industry are concerned about the fact that Enlight media act or suspected violation of the Trademark Law. After all, as a well-known traditional mythological figure, whether "Ne Zha" can become a trademark registered has also aroused controversy.

Lawyer Ye Ni of Shanghai Yiping Law Firm told reporters: "At present, there is no problem, but the process should be legitimate."

Ye Ni emphasized that "At present, only the application for registration does not mean that it will eventually be registered; in addition, it depends on the purpose of his registration of these trademarks. That is to say, it depends on the number of successful registration and the purpose behind it.

Ye Ni told reporters that there are generally three reasons behind the large number of trademark registration, one is that it really needs to be used, which is rare; the second is malignant registration, for example, for profit from the transfer of trademarks but not real use, which is the focus of the new trademark law; the third is protective registration to prevent trademarks from being registered by other people first. As the Enlight media is the producer of "Ne Zha", it has the preemptive right to register relevant trademarks. At present, it is highly possible for the Enlight film industry to register a large number of "Ne Zha" trademarks for the third reason.
