2019 High-level Forum on China IP Protection
The opening ceremony of the 2019 High-level Forum on China IP Protection was held in Beijing on April 24, with the theme of Enhancing IPR Protection & Promoting High Quality Development. Director of the CNIPA Shen Changyu and director general of the WIPO Francis Gurry delivered keynote speeches on the main forum. Besides, representatives from the international IPR organizations including the ARIPO and the OAPI and other countries like Poland and Algeria attended the main forum and presented speeches. The main forum was held by Gan Shaoning, deputy director of the CNIPA.
It was stressed by General Secretary Xi that the most important part for perfecting the property rights institution lied in enhancing the IP protection which was also the biggest motivation to raise China’s economical competition. Under such a background, considering the present situation, the 2019 High-level Forum on China IP Protection was composed of one main forum and six topical forums including “Protection on Geographical Indications Motivating Regional Economic Develop”, “Raise Censorship Quality and Strengthen Copyrights Protection–focus on patent review and invalid review”, “Enterprise Internationalization and Overseas Intellectual Property Rights Distribution”, “Artificial Intelligence and IP Protection”, “Raise Quality and Effectiveness of Trademark Censorship to Motivate Economic Development of Brands”, “Development of Sports Industry and IP Protection”. In order to cater to the needs of innovative subjects, the forum will illustrate the new ideas and thinking in various ways consisting of guest presentation, site interaction and case analysis, report release which aimed to provide beneficial experience for China’s IP protection for the new era and contribute IP intelligence for the high-quality economical development.
It was introduced that the forum of this year was co-hosted by the CIPN and the China branch of the WIPO. As one of the most important activities of the Annual National Intellectual Property Publicity Week, the High-level Forum on China IP Protection which has been held for four consecutive years attracts attention from various social groups for its concentration on the IP hot topics and connection with the public needs with the characteristics of high level, substantial content, spacious horizon, new form, internationalization and wide influence. This year, officials of the National Intellectual Property Administration, PRC, representatives from international IP organizations and relative bureaus of foreign government, government officials from relative countries and regions, IP commissioners located in China from relative countries, public celebrities, experts and media reporters will attend the forum and discuss further on related topics about enhancing IP protection.
