Added-value of China's Copyright Industry Accounted for 7.39% of GDP

Recently, the China Press and Publication Research Institute completed a survey report on the "Economic Contribution of China's Copyright Industry in 2019". The survey showed that the industry added value of China's Copyright Industry in 2019 was 7.32 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.34% year-on-year; its share of GDP was 7.39%, an increase of 0.02% over the previous year. The proportion of China's Copyright Industry in the national economy has steadily increased, and the overall scale has grown further.

During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, the National Copyright Administration and local copyright administrative departments have fully implemented various decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and comprehensively used laws, policies, and administrative measures to promote the high-quality development of China's copyright industry. From 2016 to 2019, the industrial added value of China’s copyright industry has increased from RMB 5.46 trillion to RMB 7.32 trillion, and the industrial scale has increased by 34%. From the perspective of its contribution to the national economy, China’s copyright industrys proportion in GDP has been increased from 7.33% in 2016 to 7.39% in 2019, an increase of 0.06 percentage points. The proportion of copyright in GDP is steadily growing. From the perspective of the average annual growth rate, the value-added of China’s copyright industry average annual growth rate was 10.3%, 0.4 percentage points higher than the GDP (9.9%) in the same period from 2016 to 2019. As a new engine of innovation-driven development, the copyright industry has played a significant role in optimizing and upgrading China's economic structure, adding "copyright power" to China's economy’s high-quality development.

The survey showed that with China's deepening of the supply-side structural reform, the digital transformation of news publishing, radio, film and television, software, advertising, and design accelerates the digital transformation, which promotes the rapid development of the core copyright industry. In 2019, the industry’s added value of China's core copyright industry reached 4.59 trillion yuan, an increase of 10% year-on-year, accounting for 63% of the total copyright industry, and the supporting and guiding effect for the development of the copyright industry is even more obvious.

China's copyright industry is stable and improving, which has played an important role in doing the "six stability" work and implementing the "six guarantees" task. In 2019, the number of employees in urban units in China's copyright industry was 16.286,000, accounting for 9.49% of the total employment in urban units in the country; the foreign trade of China's copyright industry was steadily improving, and the export volume of China's copyright industry in 2019 was 3,653.30 Billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 14.62% of China’s total merchandise exports. The proportion of China’s total merchandise exports has remained stable at over 11% for several years.
