On August 20, 2019, the Seminar on Building High Value Patent Portfolio Strategies by “Making Good Use of Science and Technology” was successfully held in Shenzhen, jointly organized by CPA Global and China Intellectual Property Magazine. Mr. Philip Arvanitis, a senior European expert on intellectual property strategy solutions at CPA Global, was invited to attend the Seminar. To share with the guests, Mr. Liu Xuefei, Deputy Manager of Tian Law and Intellectual Property Department and Minister of Passenger Vehicle Patent Management, exchanged with the participants on the methodology and practical experience of constructing high-value patent portfolio. Mr. Song Jianfu, head of CPA Global's China business, held the meeting.

Mr. Philip Arvanitis, a senior European expert on intellectual property strategy solutions at CPA Global, introduced in detail the methods and tools for building a high-value patent portfolio. He pointed out that the initial stage of patent value evaluation is through patent retrieval, one by one reading; the intermediate stage is through patent analysis, through patent family analysis; the advanced stage is patent intelligence analysis, through the comprehensive analysis and prediction of commercial, legal, market, trademark and patent data, to ensure the practicability of patent strategy guidance.

As to how to effectively identify high-value patents using professional tools, Mr. Philip Arvantis mentioned that the patent application process has a great impact on the scope of claims, which may change due to review opinions or related patents involving competitors. Through the Innography of CPA Global, we can intuitively see the changes of claims in the application process, from which we can know the scope of our patents and the patent situation of competitors. All patented high-frequency vocabulary can be easily obtained by using the secondary technology classification tree tool without much time and labor costs. Through Innography of CPA Global, all patents can be classified by technical classification number and presented in a circle chart.
