China and Singapore Discuss Deepening Exchanges and Cooperation in Intellectual Property

Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (SSGKC) and Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) jointly held a forum in Singapore to discuss strengthening exchanges and cooperation in the field of intellectual property and to pilot the "Sino-Singapore International Intellectual Property Innovation and Service Center (the Center)".

SSGKC is located in Huangpu District of Guangzhou City. Liu Shi, deputy director of Huangpu district, said that SSGKC was a cooperation project between the governments of China and Singapore. Since July 2016, when the State Council approved the comprehensive reform of the application and protection of intellectual property rights in SSGKC, it has made explorations and innovations in such areas as intellectual property system, financial services and protection mechanism. Going forward, we would continue to learn from Singapore's advanced experience and build SSGKC into a place led by intellectual property rights and driven by innovation.

At the forum, the two countries jointly launched a pilot operation for the Center.

In September 2018, SSGKC, IPOS and Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Investment & Development Co., Ltd (GKC Co) signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly build the Center. It will develop a sound service system containing six major fields of intellectual property agency, law, information, commercialization, consultation and training, and thus become a "one-stop", comprehensive intellectual property innovation and service platform in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In his speech, Ji Huasheng, director of the International Exchange Department of IPOS, said that in the future, we would give full play to the Center, deepen Sino-Singapore intellectual property cooperation and exchange, and help enterprises enter the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and countries along the route of "the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)".
