On June 15, the Second Session of the Second Standing Committee of Beijing IP Law Society, which is also a seminar and ceremony of the establishment of professional committees for copyright law and competition law respectively, was held in Beijing. During the session, representatives voted on new members, and Qu Sanqiang, executive vice president of the Society, reported to the Committee 2018 annual inspection and social organization assessment.

Nowadays, Beijing IP Law Society has more than 30 members, including Beijing Sina Internet Information Service Co. Ltd and Future Television Limited (New TV).

The session also announced the establishment of professional committees for copyright law and competition law respectively. Nowadays, the Society has five professional committees, of which the other three are for trademark law, patent law and enterprise IP. According to Qu, since its establishment in 2012, the Society has begun to plan the establishment of professional committees, with the major goal of enhancing efficiency and making full use of resources. These five committees can plan, arrange and implement activities according to their own characteristics, which is more flexible and convenient.

Qu also said, “nowadays, the IP industry in China is at a critical moment, which poses not only challenges but also opportunities for people working in this industry. There is still a lot of work to do to solve relevant issues.”

Why has the copyright law professional committee been established? Liu Ying, director of the committee, said that given many fields of intellectual property, the establishment of the professional committee would certainly help the Society expand its research area and have greater influence. Going forward, the copyright law professional committee will not only cooperate with other professional committees, but launch relevant activities together with external institutions. She said, “I’m confident that our committee will develop its own characteristics, extend brand influence, and have a bright future”.
