A severe case in manufacturing & selling counterfeited name hard drives of large scale was solved by Nanjing Police, Jiangsu Province. Two factories and four offices for selling counterfeits were cracked down with 21 thousand counterfeited name hard drives confiscated.

It was disclosed by Nanjing Police that the confiscated server hard drives included brands such as HP, Dell, Huawei, IBM and Seagate. Since the suspects found out that the server hard drives were once or twice more expensive than the ordinary hard drives with the same RAM, they collected discarded ordinary hard drives from domestic and abroad, then managed to revise parameters, refresh data and repack with name brands. They made a windfall profit of 60% in the process of selling the counterfeited hard drives.

After investigation, Nanjing Police cooperated with the police from Beijing, Chongqing and Guangzhou, cracking down two factories manufacturing counterfeits and four offices selling the products. According to the description by Nanjing Police, they were shocked by the scale of the factories they saw, with sufficient facilities and sources including trademarks, package bags, hard drive cases, discarded RAMs, testing computers, code printers and hundreds of workers busy manufacturing and shipping.

It was also stated by Nanjing Police that the case was solved by the report from HP Development Company at first. The main suspects Zhou and Wu met each other when working together in Shenzhen. After that they worked in Nanjing and Beijing separately, both chief principals in the field of server hard drives. Then they came up with the idea of cooperation that one should be in charge of manufacturing counterfeited server hard drives while the other in charge of selling.

At present, the 56 suspects, including Zhou and Wu, have been arrested. The case is still under investigation.
