According to an announcement released by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) on November 14, vivo Mobile Communications Co., LTD. (vivo) has filed an invalidation request against a patent involving signal transmission method owned by Zhongxing Telecommunication Equipment Corporation (ZTE). Industry insiders speculate that ZTE, which has been promoting its patent licensing program, has started licensing negotiations with vivo, the largest smartphone seller in China. According to the report, ZTE announced last year that its patent portfolio, worth up to 45 billion yuan, is expected to bring licensing fees of 4.5-6 billion Yuan, suggesting the company’s plan to charge domestic and foreign enterprises for patent fees.
