China's self-driving industry is facing a golden era. According to relevant statistics, about 43% of the world's self-driving invention patents come from China, significantly outpacing the United States (25%), South Korea (9%), Germany (9%), Japan (8%) and other developed countries. China is now leading the self-driving industry across the globe with the support of pioneering enterprises in the field such as Baidu. Statistics from the Incopat database, a global patent database that collects more than 158 million pieces of patent information from 157 authorities, suggests that Baidu has applied for 3,477 self-driving invention patents as of Oct 31, ranking first in the top ten global self-driving patent applications list, with Toyota, Bosch, Honda and Hyundai ranked 2-5th, respectively. According to report, Baidu also launched the world's first open self-driving platform Apollo in 2017 with leading technology and mature self-driving solutions. Apollo Go, self-driving taxi service released by Apollo in 2021, has received more than one million orders in cities including Beijing, Chongqing, Wuhan, Changsha and Yangquan, with self-driving in Chongqing and Wuhan free of safety officers in the car.
