Huawei sued Compal and its mainland subsidiaries for patent infringement

According to information from the Suzhou Intermediate People's Court on Sep 15, a lawsuit filed by Huawei against Compal Electronics, Inc. and its several mainland subsidiaries has been officially accepted and will be held at the end of this year. As one of Huawei's few patent claims this year, the lawsuit is surprising considering that there seems to be little direct competition between the two companies. Compal mainly produces consumer electronics products including laptops and tablets for Apple, Dell and HP, while Huawei focuses recently on three patent monetization projects including 5G, Wi-Fi and HEVC. It is speculated that the two sides may have had a patent dispute in areas of direct competition, for example, in the nano waterproof screen protector for consumer electronic products.
