2020 Tianfu Intellectual Property Summit held in Chengdu

On November 19, the "2020 Tianfu Intellectual Property Summit and International Seminar on China Geographical Indication and Industrial Development" jointly organized by the Sichuan Provincial Intellectual Property Service Promotion Center, China Social Cultural Development Foundation, and Sichuan Provincial Market Supervision Administration (Intellectual Property Office) held in Chengdu. This is also the fourth Tianfu Intellectual Property Summit held in Sichuan.

The theme of this summit is "Developing Geographical Indications to Promote International Cooperation", aiming to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on "Transformation of Chinese Products to Chinese Brands" and implement the deployment of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government to build a strong province. Further promote the integrated development of the quality of geographical indications and brands, promote international exchanges and cooperation in the protection of geographical indications, promote the revitalization of rural industries, and serve the high-quality development of the economy and the improvement of people's quality of life.

The summit will last for three days and set up the main forum for "Landmark Brands and Industrial Development", two special events (industry standards of landmarks, a special session for market supply and demand exchange meetings, a special session for intellectual property service industry), one geographical indication product procurement conference, one geographical indication product exhibition and trade fair.

Zhou Huiguo, deputy director of the National Intellectual Property Administration, pointed out in his speech that China has diverse geographical conditions, a long history and culture, and has nurtured a large number of geographical indication resources. As of the end of October this year, the total number of protected geographical indication products nationwide has reached 2,385, of which 61 are foreign products; 9,224 companies have been approved to use unique signs for geographical indication products; the number of registrations of geographical indication trademarks has reached 5,933, including 210 foreign trademarks. In the new era, giving full play to the advantages of the geographical indication system, better promoting the high-quality development of the regional economy, building a dual-cycle pattern of services, and supporting high-level opening-up is a critical mission assigned by the Central Committee of CPC and the State Council to intellectual property work. Zhou Huiguo said that the Tianfu Intellectual Property Summit focused on geographical indications and international cooperation. It is not only an important platform for joint discussions on the development of geographical indications, but also an important window for promoting Chinese landmarks to the world. I hope everyone will take this opportunity to exchange experiences, share information, deepen cooperation, contribute to the prosperity of the geographical indication industry, serve economic and social development, and provide greater intellectual property rights for promoting a more open domestic and international dual cycle, and achieving mutual benefit and win-win results boost.

During the summit, information on the supply and demand of geographical indication products in domestic and foreign markets was also released, physical exhibitions, tastings, exhibitions, and brand experience of geographical indication products were carried out, trade recommendation meetings for geographical indication products, bilateral and multilateral procurement negotiations, and geographical indication products were signed market purchase agreement, etc.

Leaders of a number of provinces (municipalities) market supervision administrations and intellectual property bureaus; relevant persons in charge of member units of the Sichuan Provincial Intellectual Property Work Leading Group; persons in charge of intellectual property authorities of each city (prefecture); relevant industry experts, some domestic and foreign intellectual property industry associations for more than 300 people, including representatives of the Geographical Indication Industry Development Association, Geographical Indication Manufacturers, and Trade Purchasers attended the summit.
