CNIPA and Chile Industrial Property Office held video conference on November 17

On November 17, Shen Changyu, Director of the National Intellectual Property Administration, PRC (CNIPA) held a video conference with Loreto Breschi, Director of the Chilean Industrial Property Office. The two parties reviewed the cooperation between the two offices in recent years, discussed the main content of future bilateral cooperation, and exchanged views on topics such as artificial intelligence-related patent examination and strengthening support for small and medium-sized enterprises. After the meeting, the two parties jointly signed the "Joint Statement of Intent on Extending the Patent Examination Highway Pilot Project for Deepening Cooperation in the Field of Patent Examination" between CNIPA and the Chilean Industrial Property Office.

Shen Changyu briefly introduced the overall situation of China's intellectual property field and the latest progress of intellectual property work. He said that the Chilean Industrial Property Office is an important partner of CNIPA. The two offices have maintained a good cooperative relationship for many years and have achieved fruitful cooperation in review services, personnel training, and data exchange. The signing of the joint statement of intent to extend the patent examination highway pilot project this time will provide great convenience for applicants from both countries. It is hoped that the two sides will further deepen the cooperative relationship, achieve more practical cooperation results, and provide high-quality and efficient services to the innovative entities of the two countries.

Loreto Breschi said that the Chilean Industrial Property Office attaches great importance to the friendly cooperative relationship with CNIPA, and appreciates CNIPA in responding to the Covid-19 epidemic, protecting patents in the field of artificial intelligence, and supporting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. We are willing to share their best practices with China and jointly cope with challenges.

It is reported that CNIPA and the Chilean Industrial Property Office signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) in 2017, and officially launched the China-Chile PPH pilot project on January 1, 2018. After the signing of the joint statement of intent between the two offices, the new CIIC PPH pilot project will be officially launched on January 1, 2021.
